Rennie MacIntosh Occasional Wall Table

Solid Sycamore occasional wall table designed for an Edinburgh based customer. She asked for the design to be based on her favourite earrings.

Spice, Slice and Stripes

This set of kitchen furniture was designed by Fiona Campbell Furniture for, and with a local customer. They wanted a versatile kitchen island that would allow different types of storage and act as a kitchen table for eating suppers. It was to become the hub of the kitchen. The walnut strips flow through the stools, handles and top giving continuity. It is set on four castors so that it can be wheeled in and out of the kitchen. This piece was a joy to make.

This island has over 100 joints and required four people to lift it.

Matching Stools

These stools were designed to match the oak and walnut kitchen island. The pair slide easily into each end of the unit.

In this day and age, recycling hardwood timber is really important. My latest project involves turning old Ikea solid oak worktops into shelving for a family based in North Berwick. They recently had a new kitchen installed and instead of chucking out their old worktop, they have opted to turn it into seven floating shelves and a bathroom worktop.

This kind of job is fantastic as the wood has seasoned for years in their home so will be very unlikely to move.

I have not wasted a scrap of the wood, turning the remainder small pieces into door stops, cutting boards and small shelves.

Solid Oak Cross

I spent the afternoon installing this solid oak cross headstone in the local cemetery. The family of the deceased wanted a sculptural hard wood headstone that was to be inspired by two stones they had found.

I hand sculpted the oak to recreate the smooth finish of the rocks that had been worn smooth over time. We had brass plaques made up at the local engravers. The cross is finished with Osmo Oil, a green outdoor oil finish.

Butchers Block Kitchen Island

This oak and beech Kitchen Island was produced for London based customers. They wanted a large butchers block top that could be used daily for preparing food.

The unit will mainly be positioned in the centre of their large kitchen but they wanted to be able to wheel it away and to store it in the corner of the kitchen so we went for knobs on one side and no handles on the other side.

The top is oiled with food safe, high grade mineral oil.

Stramash!

Completed today, a prototype of 'Stramash.'

Tony Mitchell, founder of Stramash Games Ltd., is currently launching the game.

Donald's Chair

Solid oak child's chair with toy train, carved name and under seat drawer.

"Donald's Chair" was designed for Donald's grandmother to give to her grandson. She ordered the "Angus Chair" for her other grandson a few years ago and asked for something similar but different for Donald.

Mirrors for Exhibition

The latest range of mirrors, produced for Dirleton gallery's 'Studio D Presents', are all made from locally sourced oak.

Two have stained glass embedded.

Prototypes Arrive

The prototype champagne trays came back from QD Plastics today. The new handles work perfectly - allowing the trays to be stackable, easily loaded and held comfortably and securely.

Sycamore Stripe

Fiona Campbell Furniture and a Bristol based customer, designed this large mirror to fit into a specific space in their home.

Construction was finished on Christmas eve.

1.75 m x 0.75 m.

Solid walnut with a solid sycamore stripe.

Stapler project - done

I have graduated the Master of Design course and have finished the Stapler Project after a year of research, design and development.

The project involved redesigning and rebranding a surgical stapler for a Chinese medical engineering company alongside the Intitute of Medical Science and Technology (IMSaT).

Design outputs included a range of rendered 3D CAD models and fully resolved rapid prototypes. I worked with key stakeholders to produce a research driven and user-focused innovative product that is currently being considered for mass production.
